Neurotoxin treatments are one of the most popular procedures in the U.S. Neurotoxins main use are to smooth wrinkles that form as a result of different facial movements we make day to day (i.e. frowning, squinting, smiling etc.) The treatment works by blocking the nerve impulses to the muscles causing them to temporarily relax which results in your expressions softening and a reduction in wrinkles.
Facial fillers are substances injected into the skin to smooth wrinkles and make them less noticeable. Injection of a facial filler is generally an outpatient procedure that is done with numbing medication. The procedure takes up to an hour.
● Glabellar Lines (aka “elevens”)
● Wrinkles around the eyes (aka“crow’s feet”)
● Forehead Creases
● Corners of the mouth
● A “cobblestone” appearance to the chin
● Above the lip to treat a“gummy smile”
● In the armpits and feet to reduce perspiration
● Masseter (cheek muscle) for TMJ or teeth grinding
● Neck for headaches
● Hyaluronic acid (Restylane, RHA, Versa, others). This natural component of the skin’s connective tissue is the most common filler used for wrinkles. The results typically last 6 to 12 months.
● Calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse). This filler is used to contour the jawline, restore volume in the cheeks, and treat deeper wrinkles and skin folds. The results last up to a year when used for contouring and 3 years when used to fill wrinkles.
● Fat grafting. With this method, fat is removed from the lower abdomen or other areas through liposuction. It is then injected through small incisions into the cheek, temple, lips or forehead. The effects might be permanent. Achieving the desired results usually requires more than one session as well as overfilling the site because the body reabsorbs some of the fat.
● Permanent soft tissue filler (Bellafill). This filler is used to smooth deep wrinkles around the mouth. The body can not absorb this type of filler, so it does not require reinjection. Permanent soft tissue filler generally isn’t recommended as a first-time facial filler treatment.
● Poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra). This product is used to restore facial volume lost due to aging or illness. Two or three sessions are usually required. The effects last up to two years. As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved with the use of dermal fillers. Most side effects reported in clinical trials and post-market surveillance occur shortly after injection and go away within a few weeks. In some cases, side effects may emerge weeks, months, or years later.
You can get Neurotoxin Injectables as little or as often as you would like. Each manufacturer has its own timeframe in which the effects last. For example, Jeuveau (aka “Newtox”) effects will last up to 3-4 months.
You might have mild discomfort, bruising, and swelling for up to a week. After the swelling goes down, you might need a touch-up injection for best results. How long the effect lasts depends on the type of wrinkle and filler, among other factors.
The most common risks include bruising, redness, pain, swelling, tenderness, itching, rash, and vascular occlusion. The most serious risk associated with dermal fillers is accidental injection into a blood vessel. Filler that enters a blood vessel can cause skin necrosis (death of tissue), stroke, or blindness. While the chances of this happening are low, if it does happen, the resulting complications can be serious and may be permanent.
